SysAdmin

Sysadmin means system administrator. Long ago, when IT was in its childhood and sysadmins used to have only personal computers based on IBM XT and AT systems, a 'system administrator look-out' evolved, that characterized their appearance for long. Exhausted, overdrove, silent people with a screwdriver kit in their belly bag, wearing jeans, checked shirts and glasses, running around devices and trying to solve hardware and software problems.

Due to the rapid development of IT section, the profession has changed significantly. According to the new challenges, they divided into different areas (database administrator, network administrator, etc.) and during that time they lost their characteristics. There is only one thing that hasn't changed since: not any system faults can be reproduced, everything is working properly when they're there.

However, as the development of IT systems accelerated, system administrators have became increasingly isolated from other employees, they managing problems and running operations by remote. Many people working for big companies don't meet the system administrator in person for months or even for years, although they write emails to one another and talk on the phone every day. This separation also contributed that Ted Kekatos – inspired by an HP print ad – launched the appreciation of administrators once a year.

Originally, it's held on the last Friday of July every year (31 July in 2020) and is called sysadminday. This day co-workers and business associates usually surprise them with chocolates, cakes, beers or other delicacies.
